Generate and optimize Shopify product descriptions in bulk — without breaking your catalog

Bulk-edit hundreds of Shopify products from one CSV: export → AI generates and optimizes titles, descriptions, tags and SEO fields → re-import via Shopify Admin. No app, no API access, pay-as-you-go.

Why optimize your Shopify product listings in bulk

A mature Shopify catalog typically holds between 200 and 5,000 product pages, written over the years by different people, sometimes imported from a supplier feed or a legacy back-office. The result: inconsistent title lengths and styles, descriptions that are either too thin or too technical, empty SEO fields, tags piled up without logic. That noise is expensive — in SEO (Google struggles to rank weak pages), in conversion (shoppers hesitate in front of poor listings), and in time (reworking 1,000 listings by hand takes weeks).

Ecomptimize reads your standard Shopify CSV export, recognizes every native column, and improves the content fields you pick — titles, HTML descriptions, SEO tags, product tags — without touching structural data (price, SKU, variants, images, handle). You review the proposed changes in a dedicated screen, accept or correct, then re-import the file into your Shopify admin. No app install, no access to your orders or customers.

The Shopify fields we optimize
  • Title — clear, search-intent-driven reformulation, consistent format across the entire catalog
  • The description (Shopify Body HTML field) — clean formatting: intro, bullets and detail section, richer wording, mobile-readable
  • Tags — normalization, deduplication, targeted enrichment (materials, occasions, segments), respect of your store's conventions
  • SEO Title and SEO Description — search-engine optimization, SERP-aware length, call-to-action when relevant
  • Image text for Google Images (Shopify Image Alt Text field) — optimized only when the column exists or a usable Shopify image is present
  • Selected fields only — Vendor, Type, variant options, and structural metadata stay preserved
What we never touch
  • Your listing's web address (the handle / URL slug) — preserved verbatim: no broken links, no redirects
  • SKU, Variant SKU, Variant Price, Variant Inventory Qty — never modified, your stock and accounting stay intact
  • Images (Image Src, Image Position) — media assets are never replaced or removed; Shopify image alt text changes only with an Image Alt Text column or exploitable Shopify image source
  • Published, Status, Gift Card, Tax — all publication and fiscal metadata preserved
  • Google Shopping metafields (Google Shopping / Category, Condition, etc.) — kept as-is

How it works with Shopify, step by step

  1. 1

Shopify Admin > Products > Export. Choose "All products" (or a filtered subset). Format "CSV for Excel, Numbers, or other spreadsheets". You receive the file by email within minutes.

  2. 2

In Ecomptimize: dashboard > Optimize > drop the CSV. We detect it as a Shopify export, pre-map the columns, estimate the price based on product count, and ask you to confirm which fields to optimize and which brand voice to follow.

  3. 3

After the run, the review screen shows every listing side by side: before / after. Accept, correct, or leave suggestions as-is before exporting.

  4. 4

CSV export in the same Shopify format. In Shopify Admin > Products > Import, drop the file and check "Overwrite any existing products that have the same handle". Listings update without creating duplicates.

Why not use a Shopify App Store app?

Product-optimization apps on the Shopify App Store usually require API access to your store (read products, orders, customers), a monthly subscription that runs even when you don't use it, and an install that often leaves traces in your theme or webhooks after uninstall. For a one-shot or quarterly catalog refresh, that model is over-engineered.

Typical Shopify app
  • Monthly subscription, even when idle
  • API access to your products, orders, customers
  • Install inside your store, potential theme impact
  • Uninstall leaves artifacts (webhooks, tags, metafields)
  • Live optimization: hard to review before publishing
Ecomptimize
  • Pay-per-use: nothing to pay in months when you are not optimizing
  • No access to your store, just a CSV export/import loop
  • Nothing to install, nothing to uninstall
  • Review every listing before export when needed
  • Offline workflow: your shoppers only see the final version

Which Shopify stores benefit most

Ecomptimize works especially well on catalogs where product listings carry a differentiation or SEO stake. The use cases below are where the product is most relevant.

Specialty retail
Gift, lifestyle, and niche catalogs. Clearer titles, better-structured tags, and more readable use cases in descriptions.
Home and decor
Furniture, home linen, tableware. Dimensions, materials, interior style structured to improve filtering and discovery.
Food and beverage
Fine grocery, wine, supplements. Origin, use cases, pairings highlighted. Mandatory legal claims respected.
Beauty and cosmetics
Skincare, makeup, fragrances. Key ingredients, skin types, benefits — without unsupported claims.
Crafts and makers
One-of-a-kind pieces or small batches. Artisan tone preserved while improving SEO readability.
Electronics and tech
Compatibility, specs, use cases. Rigorous structure to make comparison easier on the buyer side.

Frequently asked questions — Shopify

Do I need to install a Shopify app?

No. Ecomptimize works only through Shopify's native CSV export/import. You grant no API access to your store. You export a file, we optimize it, you re-import. Zero impact on your theme, webhooks, or metafields.

Will my product URLs change?

No. The Handle field — which drives your URL — is preserved verbatim in the re-imported file. No redirects to set up, no lost backlinks, no impact on your earned SEO.

Will re-importing create duplicates in Shopify?

No, as long as you check "Overwrite any existing products that have the same handle" during the Shopify import. Since the Handle is identical, Shopify updates the existing listing instead of creating a new one.

How many products can I optimize in a single run?

Large catalogs are supported within file size and processing limits. For a first try, we recommend 20 to 50 listings to calibrate the brand voice.

Do I pay even if I don't like the result?

The run is billed once launched, but you get to review and correct every listing before exporting. If a listing doesn't work for you, you can reject it or edit it directly in the review screen. Nothing goes "live" until you re-import into Shopify.

Do you touch prices, stock, or variants?

Never. Variant Price, Variant SKU, Variant Inventory Qty columns, and all structural metadata (Vendor, Type, Published, Taxable) are strictly preserved. We only work on the content fields you selected.

Does it work with multi-variant products?

Yes. The Shopify CSV format uses one row per variant and Ecomptimize correctly groups rows to work at the product level. Title and Body HTML are optimized once per product; variant options and names are preserved as-is.

Can I choose which fields to optimize?

The selected offer defines the processed fields: The essentials covers Title, Body HTML and Tags; Google visibility, Formatted descriptions and Expert catalog add SEO Title and SEO Description. Fields outside the offer stay preserved.

Is my data confidential?

Yes. Your CSV is processed within the scope of your account and only by Ecomptimize and the configured AI providers required for the processing. Retention periods and subprocessors are documented in the privacy policy.

I'm on Shopify Plus. Does Ecomptimize work?

Yes. The CSV export format is the same as standard Shopify. Plus-specific features (B2B channels, Markets, advanced metafields) are preserved on re-import since we only touch the selected content columns.

Can I bulk edit Shopify products instead of editing them one by one?

Yes — that's the core of Ecomptimize. You export your Shopify products as a CSV, then optimize titles, descriptions, tags and SEO fields across the whole catalog in a single run, and re-import. It's bulk editing without installing an app or granting API access.

Is Ecomptimize a Shopify product description generator?

Yes. It generates and rewrites product descriptions — plus titles, tags and SEO meta — for your Shopify catalog from your CSV export, in your brand voice and in any of 7 writing languages. You review every listing before re-importing.

Is Ecomptimize an AI product description generator for Shopify?

Yes. Ecomptimize works as an AI product description generator for Shopify: it reads your products, writes a unique, SEO-ready description for each one, and exports a file you re-import — across your whole catalog at once, not one product at a time.

Can I bulk edit and bulk upload Shopify products?

Yes. Ecomptimize is built for bulk: export your Shopify products to CSV, optimize every description, title and SEO field in a single run, then bulk upload the file back to Shopify — instead of editing products one by one in the admin.

Test a Shopify sample before a full processing

Export a sample from Shopify, run it in Ecomptimize, then review the suggestions before reimporting. The exact price is shown and confirmed before paid processing.
