Glossary
Catalog optimization vocabulary
Clear, jargon-free definitions of the e-commerce terms every merchant meets — and the words Ecomptimize uses across optimizations, billing and SEO.
E-commerce terms
- SKU
- Stock Keeping Unit — a unique code you give each product or variant to track it in your inventory. Ecomptimize never changes your SKUs.
- Handle (Shopify)
- The unique, lowercase identifier Shopify uses for each product, in its URL and CSV. It is case-sensitive (Handle, not handle) and Ecomptimize keeps it untouched.
- Meta description
- The short summary (about 150-160 characters) shown under your page title in Google results. A good one improves clicks; Ecomptimize can write them in bulk.
- SEO title
- The clickable title shown in search results and the browser tab (about 50-60 characters). It can differ from the product title shown on the page.
- CSV
- Comma-Separated Values — a plain spreadsheet file used to import and export your catalog. It is the format Shopify and WooCommerce expect.
- XLSX
- The Excel spreadsheet format. Ecomptimize can read it as input, but exports a CSV for re-import plus an optional XLSX report to read.
- Product feed
- A structured file listing your products, used by your store and by shopping or ad channels. Clean titles and descriptions make a stronger feed.
- Product variant
- A version of the same product (size, color…). Ecomptimize keeps variants and their links to the parent product intact.
AI search and modern SEO
- GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)
- Optimizing your product content so AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI answers mention and recommend your products. Clear, complete, well-structured descriptions are what these engines quote.
- AEO (Answer Engine Optimization)
- Writing your product pages so search engines and AI can lift a direct answer from them, for questions like sizing, material or compatibility. Complete, factual descriptions win these answer boxes.
- Agentic commerce
- Shopping done by AI agents that browse and buy on a person's behalf. These agents pick products from clean, structured catalog data, so weak or missing descriptions get skipped.
- Structured data (schema markup)
- Hidden labels in a page's code that tell search engines exactly what each part is: price, rating, availability. It helps Google and AI understand your products and show richer results.
- Rich results
- Search results that show extra detail like star ratings, price, stock or images instead of a plain blue link. They come from structured data and stand out, earning more clicks.
- PDP (product detail page)
- The page dedicated to a single product, with its title, images, description and buy button. It is the page shoppers and search engines judge, so its content quality drives sales and ranking.
- AI crawler
- A bot from an AI company, like GPTBot or ClaudeBot, that reads your site to learn about your products. If your pages are clear and crawlable, your catalog can show up in AI answers.
- PIM (product information management)
- A system that stores and organizes all your product data in one place. Ecomptimize works from a simple file instead, so you get clean, enriched content without setting up a PIM.
Ecomptimize terms
- Run
- One complete pass of your catalog through Ecomptimize, from upload to export.
- Mapping
- The association between the columns in your file (Title, Description…) and the product fields Ecomptimize fills.
- Preview
- A first AI generation applied to a sample of your products so you can judge quality before the full run.
- Review
- The before/after screen where you validate or tweak every suggested change, field by field.
- Quality check
- Automatic rules that flag problems (forbidden words, length, SEO gaps) before export.
- Export
- The final import-ready CSV for Shopify, WooCommerce or eBay. XLSX can also be generated as a readable report when requested.
- Catalog
- Your full list of products as exported from Shopify or WooCommerce. Ecomptimize works on a copy and never writes back to your store automatically.
- Brand profile
- Voice, tone, forbidden words and reusable values. Applied to every processing of the catalog you assign it to.
- Pricing tier
- One of The essentials, Google visibility, Formatted descriptions or Expert catalog. The offer decides which fields are rewritten and the per-product price you pay.
- Billable item
- The unit you actually pay for. On Shopify and WooCommerce that is one product, never one variant.
- Prepaid balance
- Wallet model: your balance is debited only for the confirmed amount. If your balance is insufficient, you only pay the difference.
- Re-importability level
- Tells you how easily your optimized file can be re-imported as-is into your store. Ecomptimize shows this clearly before you download, so there are no bad surprises.
- Full preparation
- Generating every listing in your catalog, beyond the preview sample. This is the billed step that produces your final, export-ready file.
- Safe update file
- An export that contains only the optimized text and the identifiers, without touching your variants, prices, or stock — so you can re-import without risk, especially on WooCommerce.
