Re-import your catalog

How to re-import your optimized CSV into Shopify and WooCommerce (prices and stock untouched)

How to re-import your optimized CSV into Shopify and WooCommerce (prices and stock untouched)

You've downloaded your optimized file and you're wondering what it's going to change in your store? Don't worry. We'll walk you through everything, step by step. It's simpler than it looks.

What the re-import changes (and what it leaves alone)

The optimized file only changes the text: the titles and descriptions of your product listings.

It doesn't touch:

  • your prices,
  • your stock,
  • your variants.

In other words: your numbers stay your numbers. Only the "storefront" part (what your customer reads) is rewritten to be clearer and better ranked.

That's why you can re-import with confidence. And if you want peace of mind, you'll check two or three listings after the import (we'll show you how at the end).

Re-importing into Shopify

  1. In Shopify: Products > Import, then select your CSV file.
  2. Tick "Overwrite products with matching handles", then run the import.
  3. Check a few listings: only the optimized text has changed (prices, stock and variants untouched).

The "handle" is the unique identifier of each product in Shopify. By ticking this box, you're telling Shopify: "update the products I already have, don't create duplicates." That's exactly what we want.

Re-importing into WooCommerce

  1. In WooCommerce: Products > Import, then choose your CSV file.
  2. Tick "Update existing products", keep the automatic mapping, then run the import.
  3. Check a few listings: only the optimized fields have changed.

The "automatic mapping" links each column of your file to the right field in WooCommerce. In the vast majority of cases, you have nothing to change: let WooCommerce do it, it recognizes the columns on its own.

Another option, if you prefer: link your WooCommerce store to Ecomptimize. There's then no file to re-import — only the text you approved on screen gets updated, never your prices, your stock, your photos or your orders. It's your choice, and you can cut the link whenever you want.

What about eBay, Amazon or Google Shopping?

These platforms don't work like Shopify and WooCommerce. Re-importing there is different, and sometimes there's no direct re-import at all. We've written a dedicated guide for each one:

  • eBay: which file to download in Seller Hub > Reports — or, as with WooCommerce, link your eBay account and skip the file.
  • Amazon: finding the Category Listings Report (often hidden).
  • Google Shopping: your file keeps the same structure (same columns, same identifiers); you upload it into your existing feed from Google Merchant Center (Products > Feeds), then trigger its fetch again.

Frequently asked questions

Am I at risk of losing my prices or my stock? No. The file doesn't contain any new value for these fields: they stay as they are. Only the titles and descriptions are rewritten.

Will I create duplicate products? No, as long as you tick the right box: "Overwrite products with matching handles" on Shopify, "Update existing products" on WooCommerce. These boxes tell the platform to update what already exists rather than create new listings.

How do I check that everything went well? Open two or three product listings in your back office after the import. You should see an improved title and description, and find exactly the same prices, stock and variants as before.

Can I undo it if I don't like the result? On Ecomptimize, you keep your source file and you can roll back from your history. On the store side, a fresh import of the original text restores the old descriptions. Take your time, nothing is final.
